the power of prayer
We Believe in the Power of Prayer
Along with personal study and reflection on God's Word, consistent communication with God is one of the fundamental practices of a true believer and growing Christ-follower. There are a lot things we cannot do in many life situations, but there is never a time when we cannot pray.
We encourage you to take some time and examine these verses from the Bible on prayer:
From the New Testamant
Matthew 5:44
But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Matthew 6:5-13
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. "This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
Matthew 19:26
Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
Acts 2:42
They (the early believers) devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to PRAYER.
Phillipians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by PRAYER and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Be joyful always; PRAY CONTINUALLY; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
James 5:16
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The PRAYER of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
1 Peter 3:12
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."
1 Peter 4:7
The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.
Jude 1:20
But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.
From the Old Testament:
Deuteronomy 4:7
What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to him?
2 Chronicles 6:40
"Now, my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.
2 Chronicles 7:13-15
When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.
Psalm 34:15
The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry.
Psalm 66:19
... but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer.
Proverbs 15:29
The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous.
